Henry Fries is a Madison native, originally calling the Bay Creek Neighborhood home. At a young age, he moved to Waupaca Wisconsin and served on the Waupaca Parks and Recreation Board before running for the Wisconsin State Assembly in District 40 against a then 18-year incumbent at age 17 in 2022. Upon graduating from Waupaca High School, he returned to Madison to pursue a BA in Political Science and Psychology at UW-Madison. Currently he is completing his MPA through the La Follette School of Public Affairs.
First elected to the Dane County Board in 2024, Henry was amongst the youngest elected officials in Wisconsin. He was re-elected to the Dane County Board in 2026. In his time on the County Board, he has served on the Health and Human Needs Committee, the Environment, Agriculture, and Natural Resources Committee, and the Executive Committee, amongst other committee assignments. In 2026, Henry was elected by his peers to serve as the Sergeant at Arms of the Board.
An active and approachable community member, Henry believes that good governance starts with listening. He strives to engage with people from all walks of life and welcomes anyone who wants to learn more about the county board or bring a concern to his attention to reach out directly.
Throughout his tenure as a supervisor, Henry is committed to building compassionate community connections in District 5, across Dane County, and beyond. Outside of his public service and studies, he enjoys sailing, attending concerts, biking, and exploring state and national parks.
