Michael Engelberger was elected to District 35 in April 2022 representing the city of Stoughton and portions of the Towns of Pleasant Springs and Dunkirk. He is a lifelong resident of Dane County. His family settled here in the 1840’s. He grew up in Monona and lived in Madison and Fitchburg for many years before moving to Stoughton in 2010. Michael is a retired Sheet Metal Worker, Labor Leader and HAVC Project Manager. He owned a business for several years providing employment opportunities for people with disabilities through the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation of the State of Wisconsin. He holds a bachelor’s degree from the National Labor College. He served two terms in leadership capacities with the city of Stoughton Common Council from 2012 to 2018. Michael has great interest in sharing his many years of service and experiences to further the interests of the people of Dane County. He is a 40 plus year member of the Sheet Metal Workers International Association and a member of the Madison Rotary Club.

Welcome back to the Dane County Board of Supervisors District 35 News/Updates and Information Bulletin. My goal is to update constituents of District 35 in the Stoughton, Pleasant Springs and Dunkirk area of Dane County a couple times a year. I am interested in informing constituents on what I have been working on in county government and hearing any input you would like to provide to me about the county and our district. Dane County Veterans Memorial Coliseum
The county is currently negotiating a $100 million proposal of private funds to enhance and remodel the Dane County Veterans Memorial Coliseum. This is a private public partnership for the coliseum to be owned by the county and operated by a private enterprise. We hope to have a successful result in negotiating a mutually beneficial agreement in the near future and bring it through the approval process of our committees and the full county board later this year. Construction could start soon after approval. Improvements will update the facility to current standards to draw top acts and shows to the venue and creating great economic benefits to the county, our taxpayers and surrounding communities.
Alliant Energy Center Campus Redevelopment
There has been a planning process and master plan to make vast improvements of the whole campus over a number of years. The Alliant Energy Expo Center will be adding additional space and improvements that are in the planning process as well as infrastructure improvements. We hope to put out a request for information in the next few months to consider development of housing, hotels, restaurants and other possible developments on a few selected acres of the campus. The overall picture is to make the campus a gathering place for people to visit on a regular basis not just for events and to improve transportation in and out of the campus to become a focal point of the community. Some of our focus is to make the Alliant Energy Center Campus a self-sustaining enterprise that requires no taxpayer funding to operate. We are well on our way to making that happen. Waste and Renewables New Sustainability Campus
Our Waste and Renewables Department recently broke ground on phase one of our new Sustainability Campus across Highway 12 & 18 south of the current landfill. The project consists of several phases of constructing a new landfill, a new Administration and Education facility as well as modifications to our Renewable Natural Gas Facility to transform landfill biogas into renewable natural gas at the new landfill. Construction has begun. Buildings are anticipated to be complete by late 2027 and the new landfill should start to receive waste about the same time. The departments mission is to provide environmentally-sound and sustainable waste management and renewable energy solutions for current Dane County residents and future generations and it operates as an "enterprise fund" which means all of our operations are funded by the fees we charge for services and not by taxpayer dollars. Dane County Board
The Dane County Board of Supervisors is the legislative and policy making body of County Government. It is made up of 37 supervisors elected from districts in the county. The mission of the Board of Supervisors is to effectively represent the people of Dane County, providing services which secure the blessings of freedom, ensure domestic tranquility, promote the general welfare, and perfect the forms of government.
